U.S. ad spending up 5.7% in the first half

New York—U.S. ad spending totaled $63.57 billion in the first half of the year, up 5.7% over the year-earlier period, according to Kantar Media.

TV advertising led the rebound, with spot TV ad spending up 25.1%. Ad spending on cable TV was up 8.8% and spending on network TV was up 7.2%

Other categories that performed well in the first half were Sunday magazines (up 13.1%), national newspapers (up 7.1%) and online display ads (up 5.3%).

However, other media categories were down, including local newspapers (down 4.6%), b2b magazines (down 4.2%) and local magazines (down 3.5%).
