12 Marketing Trends for 2012: #11

ONLINE SPENDING MOVES UP TO SECOND PLACE OVERALL

The forecast is for digital spending to move past print in 2012. That's big: "US online advertising spending, which grew 23% to $32.03 billion in 2011, is expected to grow an additional 23.3% to $39.5 billion this year—pushing it ahead of total spending on print newspapers and magazines," according to new forecast by eMarketer.

This strong growth in online marketing manifests itself in the following areas:

Social media
The trend towards greater use of social networks for marketing purposes will continue to strengthen in 2012.

Mobile advertising
The growth trend will continue here too, with local based advertising becoming much more important.

Video marketing
The trend towards moving images can be seen not only on the internet, but also in the use of mobile devices, especially smartphones and tablets.

Measurement
Optimized measurability of online campaigns delivers accurate results quickly. Online campaigns can be targeted more precisely at key audiences.

The sales volumes of digital marketing will double over the next three years according to Forrester Research.
